EKS Migration Services

We migrate your Kubernetes workloads, from self-managed clusters, kops, ECS, or on-prem, to Amazon EKS with a cutover plan designed to minimise downtime, validated smoke tests, and full runbook documentation.

Problems we solve

  • Running Kubernetes on EC2 with no managed control plane, patching, upgrades, and etcd backups all manual
  • ECS workloads that need Kubernetes features: horizontal pod autoscaling, Helm charts, GitOps
  • Self-managed kops or kubespray clusters too expensive to operate at scale
  • On-prem Kubernetes needing to move to cloud without rewriting application manifests
  • Fear of downtime during migration causing the project to stall indefinitely

What's included

Pre-migration audit: cluster inventory, workload dependencies, PVC mapping
Target EKS architecture design (node groups, Fargate profiles, networking)
Namespace and RBAC migration plan
Stateful workload migration strategy (PVC snapshots, RDS externalisation)
Blue-green or canary cutover plan with rollback procedure
DNS and ingress cutover plan with validation checks
Post-migration smoke tests and monitoring uplift
Runbook and handover documentation

Our approach

  1. 01

    Discovery and inventory

We catalogue every workload, PVC, ConfigMap, Secret, and ingress rule. We map external dependencies and identify stateful services that need special handling.

  2. 02

    Target architecture design

We design the EKS cluster: VPC layout, managed node groups vs Fargate, IAM roles for service accounts (IRSA), and add-on selection (CoreDNS, kube-proxy, VPC CNI, AWS Load Balancer Controller).

  3. 03

    Manifest migration

We adapt your existing manifests and Helm charts for EKS, handle deprecated API versions, and configure cluster-autoscaler or Karpenter for node scaling.

  4. 04

    Parallel run and testing

We spin up the new EKS cluster alongside the existing environment. Traffic is mirrored or load-shifted incrementally. Automated smoke tests confirm parity.

  5. 05

    Cutover and validation

DNS TTL lowered, final data sync, cutover executed. Post-cutover support is agreed in the written scope. Old environment decommissioned only after sign-off.

FAQ

How long does an EKS migration take?
It depends on workload count and complexity. Stateless services migrate fastest; stateful databases and legacy apps take longer due to data sync requirements.
Can we migrate without downtime?
Often, for stateless services. We use blue-green or canary cutover strategies with DNS-based traffic shifting to minimise downtime. Whether a short maintenance window is needed depends on the data sync requirements of stateful services.
Do you migrate from ECS as well?
Yes. We can help move ECS workloads: we map ECS task definitions to Kubernetes Deployments and handle ALB-to-Ingress configuration.
What happens to our persistent volumes?
We use Velero for PVC snapshots and the AWS EBS CSI driver on EKS. Databases are typically externalised to RDS or kept in-cluster with a carefully orchestrated data sync.
Will our Helm charts work on EKS?
Many work with adjustments. We handle deprecated API versions, EKS-specific annotations for IAM, and ALB ingress class changes.
