Terraform & Infrastructure as Code Consulting

We help teams move from ClickOps to production-grade Terraform: importing existing resources, building reusable modules, and wiring up CI/CD so every infrastructure change is planned, reviewed, and auditable.

Infrastructure-as-code is not just a tool choice, it is a discipline. We use established production patterns: module versioning, remote state, drift detection, and automated policy checks.

  1. CodeTerraform in Git
  2. PlanReviewed diff
  3. ApplyPipeline only
  4. StateRemote, locked
  5. DriftDetected, fixed
Infrastructure as code workflow.Infrastructure changes are reviewed as code and applied only by a pipeline.

Pain points we fix

Infrastructure built by clicking in the console

ClickOps creates drift, undocumented changes, and outages when someone accidentally clicks the wrong button. Terraform codifies everything.

Terraform state is a mess

Missing remote state, no locking, or a monolithic state file are common. We restructure to workspaces or separate state per environment with S3/Azure Blob backends.

Modules are duplicated everywhere

We build reusable, versioned Terraform modules for your common patterns (VPCs, EKS clusters, RDS, S3) and publish them to a private registry.

No CI/CD for infrastructure changes

We implement Atlantis or HCP Terraform with plan-on-PR and apply-on-merge so every infrastructure change is reviewed and auditable.

Drift between code and reality

We run drift detection, import existing resources, and ensure your Terraform state reflects actual cloud state.

Provider upgrades break everything

We manage provider version pinning, test upgrades in isolation, and document breaking changes before applying to production.

Our process

  1. 01

    Infrastructure audit and import plan

We map your current cloud resources, identify what is already in Terraform, what needs importing, and what is pure ClickOps. You get a prioritised migration plan.

  2. 02

    Module design

We design reusable modules for your most common patterns. Each module has typed variables, outputs, and examples. All versioned and stored in your repo.

  3. 03

    Write and apply

Infrastructure code written, reviewed, and applied environment by environment, starting with dev. Each apply is planned first and reviewed before execution.

  4. 04

    CI/CD pipeline for Terraform

Atlantis or HCP Terraform configured so every PR shows a plan, and merging to main applies automatically to the target environment.

Technologies we use for this

Each page explains how we run the tool in production and when we would pick something else.

Who you will work with

Engagements are led by a named senior engineer, not passed to an anonymous team.

FAQ

Terraform vs CloudFormation vs Pulumi, which should we use?
Terraform works across many providers and has a large module ecosystem. Since 2023 it is source-available under the Business Source Licence rather than open source, and OpenTofu is the open source fork. CloudFormation is tightly integrated with AWS but AWS-only. Pulumi uses general-purpose programming languages. We help you choose based on your cloud footprint, team skills, and licensing preferences.
How do you handle existing ClickOps infrastructure?
We import existing resources into Terraform state using terraform import, document the current configuration, and then manage all future changes through code.
What is Terragrunt and when do you use it?
Terragrunt is a wrapper for Terraform that adds DRY configurations, dependency ordering, and remote state helpers. We use it when managing many environments or regions with similar configurations.
How do you manage Terraform secrets?
We integrate with AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault, or HashiCorp Vault and keep secrets out of code. Because some values can still end up in Terraform state, we also encrypt the state backend and restrict access to it.
Can you help us refactor a messy existing Terraform codebase?
Yes. We audit the existing code, extract reusable modules, fix state issues, add missing tests, and introduce a proper CI/CD pipeline for future changes.
Do you write Terraform tests?
Yes. We use Terratest for Go-based integration tests and native Terraform test framework for unit-style assertions on module outputs.
